Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira insisted that he does not care about the rumours circling Manchester United target Matheus Cunha ahead of the transfer window.

United are reportedly ready to trigger Cunha’s £60m release clause, with negotiations progressing well with the player’s camp.

For now, though, Cunha is a Wolves player, and Pereira made sure to make that clear.

“He’s committed,” Pereira said. “He’s our player and he’s committed, that’s all. He has the mentality to help the team. It’s normal that [Cunha is mentioned] every time on the news, but this is not for me.

“I don’t care about the news.”

The manager’s comments came before the match against Leicester City, in which Cunha opened the scoring before setting up goals for Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes.

The Brazilian has enjoyed a superb season for Wolves, scoring 15 goals in the Premier League.

Speculation about his future has resulted in frustration from Wolves fans, however, with Cunha indicating on social media his intention to leave the club.

And tensions on the pitch have reached a boiling point at times this season, too, for the forward.

In March, Cunha was sent off in the closing stages of an FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth after appearing to headbutt Milos Kerkez.

The striker’s ban was subsequently extended by the Football Association to four games.

But since returning to the team, Cunha has managed to keep his down, performing well for Wolves as they confirmed their safety in the Premier League.

Some fans of the West Midlands club have accepted that the forward must leave this summer, with the move to Old Trafford looking more likely by the day.

It’s unclear if United’s pursuit of Cunha will impact their desire for another striker, with names such as Victor Osimhen linked.
