West Ham United have officially released a statement confirming the signing of a star from Manchester United.
Earlier this week the Hammers announced their interest in right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the 26-year-old being one of their key targets to strengthen their defence.
New manager Julen Lopetegui has joined the club in place of David Moyes and is attempting to build the team back up to compete for European football once again with this coming season marking the second consecutive year not competing in a European cup.
West Ham had an incredibly successful campaign in the 2022/23 UEFA Europa Conference League, winning the tournament facing off against Fiorentina in the final who they defeated 2-1. However, their European success came at a price and that price was a 14th place finish in the Premier League.
Now with Lopetegui in charge, West Ham are already making moves to strengthen their squad.
West Ham have officially announced their signing of ten new players to their youth academy, having pinched one of Manchester United’s young prospects.
Majid Balogun has been announced as having signed a two year scholarship contract which has seen him move from Old Trafford to the London Stadium.
Premier League rules state that all players in their Under-17s year must start the 2024/25 season on a scholarship agreement. Without this scholarship, they are not permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.
Balogun was at United for two years prior to being released by the Red Devils at the end of the 2023/24 season.
He was yet to make his competitive debut for the Under-18s team, with the winger hoping to develop further now in the West Ham academy.
As part of their official announcement, West Ham have described the youngster as “an exciting, quick wide player who can also score his fair share of goals.”
