In an exciting move for Manchester United fans, it appears as though The Red Devils are a step closer to signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

United are desperate for some more firepower up front with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to be consistent strikers throughout their campaign.

Hojlund experienced a 21-game goal drought and has ranked as dead last of Premier League strikers for goals and assists as well as expected goals and assists.

As such, United are pursuing Liam Delap as their primary target this summer, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Schick also being considered as an alternative.

However, another top striker being linked to the side is Ruben Amorim’s former star, Viktor Gyokeres.

Fichajes has now reported that talks between United and the in-form striker are “accelerating” with Gyokeres wanting a move to Old Trafford.

However, this is directly contradicting recent comments from Ruben Amorim who commented: “Gyokeres deal? I didn’t talk to him. But if a player only wants to come to Man United to play Champions League, then he won’t come”.

He continued: “We want players who want to represent United, not players who want to play certain competitions”.

Of course, Amorim could be bluffing, looking to play down the club’s pursuit of the Sweden international.

However, with these recent comments and United prioritising the signing of Matheus Cunha for the striker’s desire to play for United, it’s worth taking this development with a pinch of salt.
