Manchester United are in desperate need of major reinforcements this summer under Ruben Amorim.

Smart recruitment has been a glaring issue at the club in recent years.

The club are now looking to repair the damage done after spending over £600m under Erik ten Hag.

The likes of Fred and Scott McTominay have been sold in recent years.

However, the Red Devils haven’t managed to form a midfield that is of the level for the long-term.

Ruben Amorim may be reuniting with Sporting CP midfielder

One player being considered as part of the rebuild is Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

Both United and Tottenham Hotspur have been showing interest.

According to SportWitness, Hjulmand has an €80m release clause, but reports suggest he could be signed for less.

He has been a key figure for Sporting, impressing both in domestic and European competitions.

Ruben Amorim knows his qualities well from their time together in Lisbon.

Tottenham are also keen on Hjulmand as they look to add more steel and defensive stability in midfield.

His physicality, ball-winning ability, and composure would provide greater balance to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Meanwhile, United’s need for midfield reinforcements is clear.

The club wants to reshape their engine room, and Hjulmand could be a key part of that plan.

Hjulmand links to United have been ongoing, with reports from CentreDevils linking the midfielder since early last year.

However, any move may hinge on the future of Casemiro, who remains uncertain at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian is on over £300k-a-week wages, and if he leaves, United will have more freedom to invest in midfield additions.

Both clubs will be hoping to negotiate a lower price for Hjulmand.

His next destination remains up in the air as the summer approaches.
