Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur may have finished side-by-side in the bottom half of the Premier League last season, but their competition extends far beyond league standings.

Both clubs are embarking on major rebuilds and find themselves clashing regularly in the transfer market.

One such name is Bryan Mbeumo, who has emerged as a top target for both sides this summer.

The Brentford star, long linked with a move to Old Trafford, is now also being seriously considered by Spurs following the appointment of Thomas Frank.

Frank, who recently made the switch from Brentford to North London, is pushing for a £60 million reunion with the Cameroon international.

Thus, hoping to convince Mbeumo to remain in London.

Tottenham have opened talks with Brentford over a potential deal and the player is said to be intrigued by the possibility of linking back up with his former manager.

That has added fresh competition for United, who remain in the race despite their initial £55 million bid being rejected.

But Mbeumo isn’t the only player both clubs have pursued this year.

Back in January, United were locked in talks with Bayern Munich for French wonderkid Mathys Tel, with Amorim desperate to add a versatile forward to his squad.

Tel, capable of playing through the middle or on the left, was viewed as an ideal fit to cover the struggling Rasmus Hojlund.

As well as the uncertain future of Marcus Rashford.

However, Spurs moved quicker, striking a loan deal with Bayern in the final days of the window.

While United refused to meet the German club’s valuation.

Tel went on to have a mixed loan spell in North London.

He netted just 3 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Still, Spurs have now confirmed via their official website that they’ve triggered their option to buy.

The 20-year-old has penned a long-term deal running until 2031.

The move is set to become permanent once his loan ends on June 30.

Tel is currently representing France at the UEFA U21 European Championship.

While United missed out on Tel in January, they remain active in the market.

Although it appears Tottenham have once again landed one of their targets.
