Manchester United are not the only club looking for new midfield signings this summer.
Pretty much all of their top four rivals are looking to bring in anything resource for the middle of the park.
Tottenham Hotspur are no different.
After finishing fifth and missing out on UEFA Champions League football by 2 points, Spurs will be hoping to build towards a more successful campaign this time around.
Ange Postecoglou gained a lot of plaudits for the way that his team played in his first season in charge, but it ultimately led to only a UEFA Europa League spot for his side.
Postecoglou and the powers-that-be will be looking see if they can crack that UEFA Champions League spot and/or win their first trophy since 2008.
One of the names that has been frequently linked to Tottenham is Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
While Chelsea were struggling to meet the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR), it was widely reported that they’d need to sell some of their homegrown talent to make up the shortfall.
As one of their star players, England midfielder Gallagher was said to be at the front of that list.
However, Chelsea have managed to navigate PSR by selling some of their youth team stars and now no longer seem to have to sell Gallagher.
Which takes Spurs back to the drawing board. And it’s been reported that they’ve identified a Manchester United man as their ideal midfield signing for the transfer summer.
Tottenham turn to Manchester for midfield reinforcements
According to The Sun, Tottenham are looking at signing Scotland international Scott McTominay.
The newspaper reports that Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of McTominay and believes he could add a new dimension to his team alongside James Maddison. To be fair, that does sound like a good pair on paper.
McTominay was one of Manchester United’s most important players last season as he scored a number of important goals across both the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Erik ten Hag is believed to be keen to keep McTominay, but the club are open to his departure if their valuation of him is met.
It is believed that United are asking for a price of around £40m.
Spurs are not the first team who have been linked to Scott McTominay.
Galatasaray have also been linked with him, with the Turkiye based side’s vice-chairman confirming that the club have had discussions to sign the player.
However, The Sun report that McTominay is primarily interested in continuing to play English Premier League football. That would give Tottenham an advantage over the likes of Galatasaray.
It seems that interest in the player has definitely increased this summer. It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will remain at Old Trafford or be playing his football elsewhere in the 2024-25 season.
