Manchester United remain firmly active in the transfer market as INEOS continue reshaping the squad under Ruben Amorim’s guidance.

While Matheus Cunha has already arrived from Wolves, the Red Devils are pushing for at least three more key additions before the start of the new campaign.

One of the top priorities remains bolstering the forward line, especially with doubts still surrounding the futures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

United have been monitoring Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo for several months and were believed to be one of the front-runners for the Cameroon international’s signature.

However, growing interest from Tottenham could make that task significantly more difficult.

Reports from L’Equipe now confirm that Spurs have moved to open talks with Rennes over striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, as they prepare to upgrade their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old netted 18 goals in all competitions last season and is under contract until 2027, but Tottenham are now looking to formalise their interest and enter discussions with the Ligue 1 side.

While no official bid has been submitted yet, the London club are expected to seek clarity on Rennes’ valuation in the coming days.

What makes this significant for Manchester United is the bigger picture: Spurs are not pursuing Arnaud Kalimuendo as an alternative to Bryan Mbeumo, but rather as part of a three-pronged attack.

Kalimuendo plays more centrally, while Mbeumo typically operates from the right, and with young forward Mathys Tel on the left, Tottenham are quietly assembling a pacey and clinical front line.

This strategy from Spurs could disrupt United’s own pursuit of Mbeumo, especially if the north Londoners act faster in negotiations.

United still view Mbeumo as a potential ideal addition under Amorim’s pressing and fluid system, but may now be forced to accelerate their plans or risk missing out entirely.

The competition is heating up—and United must now decide whether to match Spurs’ intent or move swiftly for alternatives.
