Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has hit a barrier of late, with the seemingly complete discussions for his move continuing to take place.
From the start of talks revealed by CentreDevils back in May, it was known that Brentford were viewing United’s interest in Mbeumo as similar to their signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with both being of a similar age and being proven Premier League attackers.
In line with this, The Bees were originally looking for United to match their £62.5 million release clause fee of Cunha to sign Mbeumo.

As such, United tabled a bid of £55 million with £7.5 million in add-ons to match the figure paid for their new number 10.
However, with Mbeumo vocally wanting a move to Old Trafford, Brentford were reportedly frustrated with how negotiations were going, so they upped their price to around the £65 million mark, which didn’t seem to be an issue for The Red Devils.
Now, The Guardian has reported that Brentford have raised their asking price for the Cameroon international again to £70 million, matching a reported bid from Tottenham Hotspur which the London-based club denied submitting.

This increase is reportedly the reason for the delay in Mbeumo joining United, with his medical being privately agreed weeks ago.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is insistent that he doesn’t want The Red Devils to be held ransom for their priority target, fighting back against the “United Tax”, with the club agreeing to a valuation of £65 million.
As such, the United hierarchy are determined to be patient in their pursuit of Mbeumo, still keen to sign the attacker who’s contract runs out with The Bees next year.
