Over the last few days, the future of Kobbie Mainoo has been thrown into question.

Two games into the 2025/26 Premier League and Kobbie Mainoo is yet to play a single minute as the young midfielder has seemingly fallen further down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.

It’s been reported that his lack of gametime comes down to Amorim’s concern over his lack of speed and intensity to get involved with the game.

As such, the former Golden Boy nominee has as many as ten top clubs monitoring his situation, including Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Fulham, and Brentford.

Now, The Guardian has reported that Kobbie Mainoo actually wants to leave Old Trafford.

The report explains that the 20-year-old isn’t happy with being pushed to the side by Amorim, having been demoted from the first-squad to the substitutes bench after returning from injury in December.

Prior to Amorim’s arrival, Mainoo was a key part of Erik ten Hag’s squad, helping him with the FA Cup with Mainoo and fellow United academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho scoring in the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the final.

Despite starting for England at Euro 2024, featuring in the starting line-up for the final against Spain, contract discussions with the midfielder’s camp have stalled throughout the season, with discussions coming to a stalemate.

Now, Mainoo is competing for a spot in Amorim’s starting eleven against club captain Bruno Fernandes as the Portugal international has slotted back into centre midfield following the arrival of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

As such, Mainoo’s other competition is Casemiro, with the veteran midfielder being selected over the 20-year-old and Manuel Ugarte, having experienced a resurgence under Amorim, getting routine call-ups once more for the Brazil national squad.

With less than a week left in the summer transfer, fans won’t have to wait long to see in Kobbie Mainoo will be remaining at Old Trafford, or returning this season to take on his former teammates.
