Though Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have strengthened the forward line, Ruben Amorim is still pushing for a true No.9 to lead the attack.
A signing viewed as crucial to the system United plan to play.
United’s preference remains Benjamin Sesko.
However, there is a growing sense the club may need to explore alternative options if they’re unable to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig.
That’s where Nicolas Jackson has come into the conversation.
Not necessarily a first-choice or second-choice option, but a name United have considered should their situation become more desperate as August progresses.
Chelsea are understood to be open to selling the 24-year-old, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, and have placed a whopping asking price around the £100m mark.
Jackson, however, has now broken his silence on the rumours, telling DSports TV: “I’m a Chelsea player.
“The future belongs to God. If there are any changes, you’ll know.
“For now, I’m focused on my preparation.”
Asked about competition for places, Jackson said: “Competition? I have no competition. We’re all here to help the club.
“Everyone has their role to play. I’m on a mission.
“It’s up to the coach to make his choices.”
He added: “It’s football, there are ups and downs.
“But the most important thing is to stay focused, to learn, and to grow in the face of adversity.”
