Throughout the transfer window, the move of Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford has be a key priority for Manchester United. News broke recently saying there’s no doubt that Paris Saint-Germain’s midfielder will become a Red Devil before the window closes.

Last week, we reported that the Uruguayan is reportedly waiting for his agent, Jorge Mendes, to give the go-ahead on the switch to Old Trafford.

Reports claimed that if Scott Mctominay’s move to Napoli goes to plan, United could be looking at a permanent deal rather than a loan to buy.

Monday’s edition Uruguayan newspaper El País has a brief but vital update on Manchester United’s efforts to sign the 23-year-old.

It’s reported that the negotiations surrounding the deal between the clubs are ‘practically closed’.

The report expects that Manuel Ugarte will leave the French capital for Manchester in the ‘next few hours’. El País suggests there still remain a few small details that need to be agreed.

Although it doesn’t say what these details are, the two clubs are expected to sort them out soon. El País say ‘everything is on track’ for the Uruguay international to join the Premier League side quickly.

This could in fact be backed up with the fact Luis Enrique has left Ugarte out of the squad for the first two league games of this season.

With the signing of Joao Neves from Benfica, Ugarte’s game time was always expected to drop to make way for the youngster.

Ugarte’s preference all summer has been for a move to United, and he seems really close to getting his wish.
