Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both desperate to remodel their squads in the summer as they’ve struggled in the bottom half of the table for most of the season.
Despite being two of the top clubs in England, the season has been a shambles for managers Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou with the Europa League being their only chance for European football next season.
Despite the poor seasons, either team could still be in the Champions League next season if they win the Europa League.
However, if they do achieve this feat, they’ll need to rebuild ready for the prestigious tournament and to have a better showing in the Premier League next time out.
As such, it comes as no surprise that the two teams are looking to the same target in the form of Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

Manchester United lead race for Rayan Cherki
United got a front-seat look at the talented young winger as he scored in both legs of The Red Devils’ dramatic Europa League Quarter-Finals against the French side.
This season Cherki has grabbed 12 goals and 19 assists in 41 games, also showing off his versatility across both wings, attacking midfield and made a cameo up front.
Now, Caught Offside has reported that the two English sides are in pole position to sign the 21-year-old, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich also in the race for his signature.
These four clubs are also joined by AC Milan, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace as Cherki is highly sought after across Europe.
It’s understood that Lyon have put an asking price of between £25 million and £30 million for their star, which appears to be an absolute bargain considering his quality.
