Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United revolution is in full swing as the manager pushes to reshape his squad after a turbulent campaign.

Following a disastrous 15th-place Premier League finish and a Europa League final defeat, Amorim has been granted the freedom to rebuild, with the club prioritising smart, decisive additions over marquee signings.

While the focus has remained on offloading fringe players and sanctioning loan moves for emerging talent, United are quietly working on major reinforcements behind the scenes.

After missing out on European football entirely, the club are pressing to ensure their squad is more dynamic, balanced, and capable of handling the domestic grind with renewed energy.

And now, in a potential midfield masterstroke, Manchester United have officially submitted a €40 million (£34.8 million) bid for Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand, as per Calcio Mercato.

The 26-year-old Denmark international, who thrived under Amorim in Portugal, has been earmarked as the ideal candidate to anchor United’s midfield in the coming season.

Amorim previously placed Morten Hjulmand at the heart of his project at Sporting, transforming him into a consistent starter, a leader, and eventually club captain — all within a short period.

Now reunited in ambition if not yet in location, the pair could be set to link up again in Manchester as United look to beat Juventus to the punch.

The Italian giants were previously leading the race for Hjulmand, viewing him as the natural successor to Douglas Luiz, who appears set to leave the club after missing training without permission.

However, Juventus are under financial strain and unwilling to meet Sporting’s €80 million (£70 million) release clause, instead attempting to negotiate the fee down to around €30–40 million (£26-36 million).

United’s €40 million offer, while not yet accepted, matches the valuation set by Hjulmand’s entourage, who have been pushing for a deal to go through.

The player himself is keen on a Premier League move and is reportedly eager to reunite with Amorim, whose influence helped shape his rapid rise in Portuguese football.

Sporting remain reluctant to lose their captain, but with pressure building from both the player’s camp and suitors in Manchester, a breakthrough could arrive soon.

United’s midfield rebuild may just have found its cornerstone.
