However, it has not gone further than initial interest and there has been no club-to-club contact.
Stiller is a German international and still has three years left on his contract at Stuttgart.
The German player, 24, has been suggested as a possible alternative as United considers whether to pursue another acquisition before the market closes.
Although there is no assurance that a move would happen, his participation indicates that the team is aggressively exploring a number of solutions to deal with their midfield problems.
