It seems that INEOS are doing things differently this season.

In previous seasons, Manchester United would spend an entire summer chasing the player that they wanted.

Jadon Sancho, Frenkie De Jong and Harry Maguire were all players that the club chased for a long time.

In the case of De Jong, an entire summer was wasted as the player ended up staying in Barcelona.

For Sancho and Maguire, many observers felt the club had overpaid in their desperate need to sign the one man they had identified.

This season seems different.

Last night, it was reported that Manchester United had abandoned their pursuit for Manuel Ugarte.

Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price was deemed too steep and the club had moved on.

Subsequently, it was reported that United had identified Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade as alternatives.

This morning, Sky Sports have provided an update on the situation.

What have Sky Sports said?

On their live blog, they report that United still remain interested in Ugarte, but just not at the prices being quoted.

They claim that Ugarte is keen on the move and United are aware that PSG need to sell as they’ve just brought in Joao Neves from Benfica.

However, Sky Sports also report that the United hierarchy are simultaneously working on four other midfield targets – Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, Real Socieded’s Martin Zubimendi, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Burnley’s Sander Berge.

This is in keeping with the clubs approach this summer of not putting all their eggs in one basket.

Lastly, Sky Sports report that space needs to be created in the midfield to bring a player in.

Scott McTominay is named as a player that Fulham are keen on, having had two bids rejected for the Scotland international.

It remains to be seen who United decide to bring in once the situation with McTominay clears up.
