Fenerbache have recently appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager, with the Portuguese manager looking to overhaul the squad ready to compete next season.
Already The Special One has declared interest in United loanee Mason Greenwood, having been impressed with the youngster when managing at Old Trafford.
It was understood that Mourinho specifically asked the club to enquire about Greenwood’s availability, hoping his history with the decorated manager would be enough to sway the winger to life in Turkey.
However now, it’s another United player who’s getting the attention of The Special One, with Mourinho looking to strengthen Fenerbahce’s defence.
Florian Plattenberg has announced on X that the Turkish club are turning to Swedish international Victor Lindelof.
Lindelof only has a year left on his contract, meaning that United may be more likely to accept an offer for the 29-year-old rather than see him leave the club for free at the end of his contract next summer.
The Swedish centre-back has been at Old Trafford since 2017 when he joined from Benfica for €35 million.
With 259 appearances for the Red Devils, Lindelof has been key part of the United squad, most recently helping Erik ten Hag’s side to the English League Cup and FA Cup titles over the last two years.
If Lindelof were to leave, this sale would give a massive boost the the Red Devil’s redesign of the defence, supporting their purchase of Jarrad Branthwaite and their enquiries of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
Currently, personal terms have been agreed with Everton’s Branthwaite, although the two clubs are still negotiating a fee, whilst conversations have begun internally around the potential of de Ligt.
The departure of Lindelof could pave the way for two centre-back signings, marking a complete revamp of United’s back line.
