This year has been a recurring reminder of how former Manchester United players are scattering across the footballing landscape in search of fresh chapters.
Marcos Rojo has returned home to Racing Club, Nemanja Matic has moved to Serie A side Sassuolo, while Wilfried Zaha crossed the Atlantic earlier this year to sign for Charlotte FC.
Each of those players, once part of Old Trafford’s plans, have opted to continue their careers at a lower or different level after their United journeys ended.
It is a theme that emphasises the reality facing many former Reds – carving out relevance away from the bright lights of Manchester.
Now another could be on the move, with Sheffield United exploring a late-window transfer for Tahith Chong.

According to The Star, the Blades are considering a move for the Luton Town midfielder ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.
Chong, who left Birmingham City for Luton in 2023 and impressed in their Premier League campaign, has seen his momentum checked by back-to-back relegations and a pre-season groin injury.
Sheffield United have already bolstered their defence with Japhet Tanganga from Millwall.
But manager Ruben Selles is keen to add further depth in midfield and on the wings – areas Chong can cover.
The Dutch-born 25-year-old, who now represents Curacao internationally under Dick Advocaat, is understood to be attracting interest because of his pedigree and versatility.
Luton boss Matt Bloomfield admitted earlier this summer that Chong would “inevitably” draw attention, saying he only wanted players “desperate to represent” the club.
With the deadline approaching, Sheffield United must now decide whether to test that stance and bring another ex-United name back into the English spotlight.
Chong was a player who struggled to really make a name for himself at United, having departed in 19/20.
