Manchester United are known to be in negotiations with Royal Antwerp over goalkeeper Senne Lammens, as fans hope to see a new number one arrive before the transfer window closes.

Even with Andre Onana set to stay, there has been a desire at board level to add further competition and build long-term depth in the position.

Lammens, at 23, has been seen as a strong option and someone who could immediately step into the senior setup while still developing.

But United’s pursuit has not been straightforward, with Galatasaray showing serious intent to challenge for his signature.

News circulated earlier Tuesday afternoon that the Turkish champions had even outbid United, raising fears of a potential hijack.

However, The Daily Mail’s report has revealed that despite the higher offer, Lammens only wants Old Trafford.

That preference has kept United firmly in the race and handed them a crucial boost heading into the final days of the window.

The sticking point remains United’s juggling of multiple other deals, which could impact the timing of any move for the Belgian shot-stopper.

Lammens’ background adds to his appeal.

He famously began as a striker before transitioning to goalkeeper, and in 2019 hit headlines by scoring a dramatic 95th-minute equaliser for Club Brugge’s U19s against Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League.

“Every few months, I still look back at those images. Pure goosebumps,” he admitted.

A potential deal for him would not affect Onana’s future, with the Cameroonian expected to make his first appearance of the season in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Grimsby.

Although it appears Galatasaray could sign Onana, should Lammens go to United.

For United, Lammens’ stance represents another huge boost.

The likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo also made clear they only had eyes for Old Trafford before signing.

In contrast to the embarrassment earlier this summer when Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike opted against moves.

On that front, at least, the tide has begun to turn for Ruben Amorim’s side.
