Manchester United youngster James Scanlon has attracted plenty of loan interest this summer, with clubs from England, Germany, Belgium, and France all monitoring his situation.

The club believe a temporary move could be the ideal next step in his development, offering him the regular senior football he now needs after a breakthrough season at youth level.

One side showing particular interest earlier in the window was Ineos-owned FC Lausanne-Sport, where fellow United youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik is currently on loan.

Although Kana-Biyik unfortunately suffered a significant knee injury in recent weeks.

Scanlon, who primarily operates as a left winger but can also slot into an attacking midfield role, has the versatility and creativity to shine wherever he goes.

Last season, he delivered an impressive 22 goals and seven assists across Manchester United’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides, and has already been capped at senior level by Gibraltar.

Now, according to the Daily Mail’s report, teams in Scotland are making a concerted push to sign the 21s winger before the transfer window closes.

Scanlon has trained with Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad multiple times over the past week and remains a unique case, having been a full senior international since the age of 17.

At present, there are no active negotiations with any club.

United’s preference remains to keep him in the Under-21s set-up for the coming season.

However, the door is not closed, and he could yet be a player snapped up late in the window if the right proposal arrives.

Meanwhile, fellow academy talent Harry Amass – who broke into the first team last season – is also expected to seek more senior experience elsewhere, with PSV making a strong push.

Scanlon’s development while exciting, needs to be managed carefully.

Picking the right environment and style of play for his next club will be at the forefront of Scanlon’s camp.
