The position of left-back has been an issue that Manchester United have been suffering with for over a year now, plaguing the club since before Ruben Amorim took charge.
Under Erik ten Hag, the club were without a natural left-back due to long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Unfortunately, this led to ten Hag relying on other players to over the role, routinely calling on Diogo Dalot.
With the role continuing to be a problem going into the summer, it was widely expected to see a left-back signing, however nothing emerged.
Now, Ruben Amorim has inherited the problem and is still relying on Dalot despite Malacia’s return to fitness.
Shaw has returned on several occasions, however, has continuously suffered other injuries, extending his stay in the treatment room.
It’s understood that United are now prioritising a left-back signing, having already signed Diego Leon as a future investment for the role.
However, Caught Offside has now revealed who Amorim’s top choice for the role is.

Ruben Amorim identifies his preferred replacement for Luke Shaw
Already United have been linked with a whole host of talented left-backs, including Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri.
However, the report has now explained that the Wolverhampton Wanderers defender is Amorim’s top choice.
With three goals and five assists in 20 games as Wolves try to avoid relegation, Ait-Nouri has been essential for the Premier League club.
As such, Amorim sees the Algeria international as able to slot right into the left-wing-back role in the starting eleven.
Whether United can sign the star this month relies on their ability to make sales to generate transfer funds, which The Red Devils are yet to do.
