Manchester United are set to undergo another set of drastic changes with the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new permanent manager.
United’s executive board was completely remodelled this year under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s leadership, and Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff was overhauled during the summer in time for the new season.
Now, with Erik ten Hag having departed the club and Amorim set to join during the November international break, The Red Devils are set for even more change.
Reports have recently announced that not only Amorim will be joining from Sporting but also five of his backroom staff will be joining him.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that on top of the release clause of £8.3 million (€10 million), United will be paying the Portuguese club £840,000 (€1 million) in compensation for the other staff that are moving too.
However, this may not be the end of United’s haul from the Portuguese side.
Manchester United get a massive advantage in signing Sporting Lisbon’s star man thanks to Ruben Amorim
Reports from Sky Sports suggest that Viktor Gyokeres, Sporting Lisbon’s star forward, could be following Amorim to Old Trafford. According to former Premier League player Tim Sherwood, Gyokeres is “100%” likely to join United alongside Amorim.
Gyokeres has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 4 assists across 15 matches, contributing to his 41 goals in 2024, attracting attention from Arsenal and Manchester City as well.
Speaking to Sky Sports about future signings under Amorim, Sherwood commented: “He [Amorim] will know,”
He continued: “The little detail – what he will learn in training about these guys.
“He needs to then decide, what do I need in January.
“Does he bring in Marcus Edwards with him? That boy is a superstar. He went from Tottenham [Hotspur] to Sporting.
“Do we bring Gyokeres? He’s absolutely on fire at the moment. I would suggest 100 per cent that boy comes in because they’re [United] starved of centre-forwards.
“They’ve got Hojlund, they’ve got Zirkzee, who’s not a centre-forward anyway, but they’ve got to get him out before they can bring players in, and that’s the problem.”
With Ruben Amorim set to be at the helm at Old Trafford, it certainly gives The Red Devils a boost in the pursuit of Gyokeres, who would provide a major boost to United’s attack, adding to the growing excitement around this new chapter.
