Ruben Amorim’s goalkeeper dilemma has been made even more complicated with the recent injury of Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international has unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury during the first week of pre-season training, ending his involvement in summer friendlies with the club only a week away from their flight to America.

The Red Devils are set to take part in the Premier League Summer Series in the USA, taking on West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton.

However, Amorim is now looking to academy graduate Radek Vitek to man the sticks in one of their friendly fixtures as Onana receives treatment.

Initially the first-choice keeper was expected to be out for around six to eight weeks, however has responded well to treatment, cutting his recovery time down to a potential four weeks.

Unfortunately this still rules Onana out of the US tour, however might see him back in time for United’s opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

This complication has only added to Amorim’s already difficult decision of whether to back Onana, who has been insanely problematic over the last two seasons, or sign a new shot-stopper.

One such option is Royal Antwerp keeper Senne Lammens who is a product of the Club Brugge academy.

The talented young keeper has already won the Belgian league twice with Club Brugge before joining Antwerp in 2023 on a free transfer.

However, he now sits on the edge of a much bigger move.

United are looking to the 23-year-old as a potential signing to add to their goalkeeping ranks, with the future of Altay Bayindir looking uncertain.

In a boost to United’s pursuit, Royal Antwerp’s sporting director Marc Overmars was very vocal about needing to get rid of Senne Lammens this summer.

Speaking in an interview, as reported by Sports Witness, Overmars commented: “The transfer of Senne Lammens has to happen, because we’ve already signed his replacement.”

He continued: “We’d rather not see a Butez-Lammens scenario again. Senne is our most sought-after player. There are plenty of clubs ready to make a move.”

As such, Antwerp are very open to conversations about a move, wanting to offload the star this summer.

It’s understood that Antwerp are wanting around £17 million for their much sought after keeper, with United up against newly promoted Leeds United and Sunderland for his signature.
