Manchester United’s summer window has so far been defined by headline-grabbing arrivals, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo two major early additions to Ruben Amorim’s new-look squad.

The pair, who cost around £130million combined, were joined by Diego Leon and soon-to-be-announced Benjamin Sesko, as United’s ambitious rebuild continues at pace.

But while the club’s attacking recruitment has drawn the most attention, other key areas remain unresolved.

Midfield remains one of those, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba under serious consideration ahead of a potential late-window move.

The goalkeeper situation also poses questions.

Despite being expected to stay, Andre Onana’s inconsistent form over the past two seasons means long-term plans are being discussed behind the scenes.

That’s where Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens comes in – a player long admired at Carrington, and one who has already given his green light to a potential move.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, United held club-to-club talks with Antwerp last week as they explore a deal for the 23-year-old Belgian, who posted an elite 84% save rate in the Pro League last season.

“There have been some talks last week on the player’s side (Lammens) and club-to-club as well,” Jacobs said.

However, Jacobs stated that talks remain at an initial stage, with no further advancements made as of now.

Lammens is available for around £17million this summer, and Antwerp sporting director Marc Overmars has already confirmed the club expect him to leave after signing his replacement.

The move, however, currently depends on the future of United’s current backup Altay Bayindir, who must depart before Lammens joins.

Bayindir’s future remains uncertain, as he’s said to hope for more gametime next season.

Jacobs added: “It’s not urgent until Bayindir finds another club regarding the young number two.

“And nobody else is sort of hijacking that Senne Lammens deal.”

The goalkeeping department is one United must get right next season.

Should Onana continue to struggle, questions will be asked to why the hierarchy didn’t replace the Cameroonian in the summer.

It would also further boost Lammens’ chances of signing for United, should the Red Devils become more desperate for a new goalkeeper.

Fascinating to see how it pans out with the pressure building on Ruben Amorim to improve performances and results.
