Over the summer, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has had a dramatic fall in standing at the club, going from Ruben Amorim’s main man to being dropped from the squad.

Despite a second problematic season last year, the Cameroon international seemed to have Amorim and the club’s backing as The Red Devils scoured the transfer market for attackers as a priority instead of a new shot-stopper.

It was anticipated that despite the mistakes made, Amorim who be trusting Onana for another season before looking for his replacement, however that outlook soon changed.

Now, The Daily Mail has reported the full story of Andre Onana’s fall from grace.

One of the first issues which made Onana’s future at the club uncertain was his injury in the first week of pre-season training.

Before the break, Ruben Amorim and his coaching team created conditioning plans for all of his players who would be featuring in the 2025/26 season to support them to training in better shape than before.

However, a video emerged of Onana playing football outfield with friends on a makeshift, muddy football pitch before returning to pre-season.

Due to his injury, Altay Bayindir stepped up throughout The Red Devils’ pre-season tour, and continued to be Amorim’s first choice headed into the Premier League season, with Onana only taking to the pitch in United’s disastrous Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.

Onana made several mistakes in the game, two of which resulted in the League Two side scoring, which not only hammered the nail into his United coffin, but also led to West Ham United rejecting a potential loan move for United’s unwanted man.

It’s understood that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox were both in agreement to move Andre Onana on, with Senne Lammens signed only five days after the Grimsby Town defeat, with Amorim having concerns that Onana being left out of the team could affect his new keeper settling in.

As such, a loan deal has been agreed with Trabzonspor for the shot-stopper to head to Turkey for the rest of the season, with his United career severely in question come next summer.
