Manchester United’s recruitment team has been busy plotting the next moves as Ruben Amorim continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Red Devils remain locked in talks over multiple targets, with focus on both strengthening the attack and tightening up the defence.
Andre Onana is firmly established as first-choice between the sticks, but United want depth and competition to avoid last season’s struggles when injuries struck.
Negotiations with Royal Antwerp are progressing well, with a fee in the region of £17 million being discussed for Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Reports suggest that United have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Lammens.
The 23-year-old, who stands at 6ft 4in, has already racked up 52 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and is seen as a player who can push Onana while developing into a long-term option.
Despite their pursuit of Lammens, United were also linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, but insiders have now revealed why that move never materialised.
Donnarumma, 26, is expected to leave PSG after failing to agree terms on a new deal, yet his wage demands were described as “astronomical” and simply did not fit into United’s new financial framework.

The club have made it clear they will not be dragged into paying over the odds for salaries, with Amorim insistent that discipline in the market is crucial to his rebuilding project, as per The Athletic.
That stance effectively ruled out a move for the Italian shot-stopper, despite his reputation as one of Europe’s most experienced keepers at a relatively young age.
Instead, United’s recruitment chiefs are prioritising realistic and sustainable targets, with Lammens now emerging as the top candidate to strengthen their goalkeeper department.
The Belgian international’s profile — young, tall, commanding and available at a reasonable price — ticks all the boxes as Amorim looks to balance immediate competitiveness with long-term planning.
While Gianluigi Donnarumma weighs up his options away from Paris, United appear set on a different path, with Lammens potentially arriving to provide fresh competition at Carrington.
