Manchester United’s summer transfer window has already thrown up its fair share of twists, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Ruben Amorim is now in full control at Old Trafford and is quickly identifying which players he wants to keep and which will be moved on.

Matheus Cunha is through the door, Bryan Mbeumo is inching closer to a switch, and the future of several returning loanees, including Marcus Rashford and Antony, remains firmly in the spotlight.

Despite returning from a relatively productive spell elsewhere, Jadon Sancho has yet to find clarity on where his long-term future lies.

Sancho’s future took another hit this week after reports revealed Chelsea have decided against turning his loan into a permanent deal.

The Blues had the option to sign the 25-year-old for £25 million following his season-long stint at Stamford Bridge, where he made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and assisting 10.

However, discussions between Chelsea and the player collapsed, with the main sticking point being Sancho’s hefty £300,000-per-week wages, which the west London side were unwilling to match, as per Fabrizio Romano via X.

It’s now being reported that Chelsea’s decision not to proceed means they will be forced to pay Manchester United a £5 million penalty clause agreed at the time of the loan.

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s newly-appointed manager, had spoken positively about Sancho’s impact in the latter stages of the season, suggesting his contribution helped the club finish fourth and win the UEFA Conference League.

But with the deal now off, Jadon Sancho will officially return to Old Trafford at the end of June, though Fabrizio Romano confirms the winger won’t be staying under Amorim either.

United are now expected to resume their search for a new club for Sancho, who still has a year left on his contract.

After costing the club £72.9 million when he arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, the Red Devils are bracing for a financial hit and will likely settle for a reduced fee to get him off the wage bill.
