Real Madrid are looking to the summer as an opportunity to sign a new left-back to the Bernabeu with their star Ferland Mendy out injured.
The Spanish side has confirmed that Mendy tore his thigh muscle last month, with the defender expected to miss at least three months, ruling him out of the rest of the season and the Club World Cup.
This has been extra devastating for Los Blancos who have seen Antonio Rudiger also ruled out, having to undergo surgery on his left knee to fix a tear on the outer meniscus.
With Madrid only having Fran Garcia as the alternative left-back to Mendy, the club are now looking to the summer for further recruitment.

Real Madrid target Benfica star man

Earlier this week it was reported that Real Madrid are turning their attention to Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, Manchester United’s former left-back who moved to Benfica last summer.
After a successful loan spell with Benfica for the latter half of last season, the Portuguese side made his move permanent for £5 million.
Since then, he’s launched himself as one of the top left-back’s to watch in European football, becoming Benfica’s first-choice in the role, grabbing four goals and five assists in 47 appearances.
With Benfica’s slot in the Champions League this season, Carreras has demonstrated he can play against the best, registering an assist against both Barcelona and Monaco, also helping the Portuguese side win against Atletico Madrid.
As such, Real Madrid have seen how he could support them to play against their top rivals, but one thing stands in their way, Benfica.
The Portuguese side are renowned for being firm businessmen when it comes to transfers, with the club wanting £50 million for the defender.
However, Madrid are now looking to use Manchester United to grab a cheaper deal for the talented defender.

How Madrid can use Manchester United to land Alvaro Fernandez Carreras

With United’s defensive struggles this season, and a shift from Erik ten Hag’s playstyle to Ruben Amorim’s tactics, United’s squad are set for a massive shuffle.
The biggest change between the two systems is the use of the wings, with Amorim deploying dynamic wing-backs to dominate the flanks.
Already the club have signed Patrick Dorgu, but with only Harry Amass as a back up until Diego Leon joins the side, The Red Devils have strongly considered a move for Cerreras.
When they sold the defender, they made sure to include a buy-back option, meaning he could return to Old Trafford for only £15 million.
That’s where Madrid are hoping to make this work.
Madrid’s plan, as reported by Spanish publication AS, is for United to but Carreras back, essentially costing them £10 million for their own player.
However, the Spanish Champions could then launch a £30 million bid on the wing-back, making £20 million profit for United and saving Madrid £20 million on their target.
