Manchester United are currently faced with a mammoth task, restoring the club to the top of world football, whilst facing significant financial pressures due to years of mismanagement.
Under Erik ten Hag, around £600 million was spent on transfers, with only an FA Cup, a Carabao cup, and the club’s two worst ever Premier League finishes to show for it.
Now, since INEOS have taken charge, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been introducing extensive cost-cutting measures to ensure financial sustainability, such as mass redundancies and cutting funding to associated groups.
The British entrepreneur has also been looking at other ways of boosting income, such as hiking ticket prices, and adopting a new player sales strategy, focusing on including sell-on clauses for future windfall payments.

Now, United are in line for a handful of these extra incomes, with Anthony Elanga moving to Newcastle United for around £55 million earning United at least £6.75 million, significant interest in Maxi Oyedele to earn United £2 million and Real Madrid pursuing Alvaro Carreras.
Madrid have been pursuing the former Red Devils for some time now, keen to sign the talented left-back for Xabi Alonso’s new squad.
It’s understood that not only did United include a £15 million buy-back clause for Carreras, but also a 20% sell-on clause.
Whilst United aren’t wanting to trigger their buy-back clause, they are due to benefit from Real Madrid’s upcoming purchase of the 22-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that with the club still competing in the Club World Cup, their focus is very much still on the pitch, however “the here we go is coming”.
Now, Romano has reported that Rafael Obrador is set to head the other way as part of a cash-plus-player deal to get the transfer across the line.
Unfortunately for United, as the deal is no longer looking likely to be a straight transfer fee, the windfall payment to United is expected to be significantly lower than first thought.
Originally it was expected that with Carreras’ release clause of £42 million (€50 million), United would be earning around £8.4 million, however now we’ll have to see how much of the £42 million Obrador will be making up for.
