Manchester United winger Antony has had an incredible return to form during his loan-spell at Real Betis.
The Brazilian trickster rose to fame at Ajax, inspiring an £80 million transfer to United in 2022 under Erik ten Hag.
Since then he’s failed to measure up and justify the incredible fee paid to the Dutch club.
In 96 appearances for United, Antony has only registered 12 goals and five assists, leading to him sitting on the bench or coming on as a substitute for most of the last year and a half at Old Trafford.
However, since moving to Spain with Real Betis for the remainder of the season back in January, Antony’s been enjoying fine form, including five goals and four assists in 18 games.
Now, Betis are looking to plan a deal to keep their new star past the end of the season.
The Telegraph has reported that the LaLiga side are preparing another loan offer for the winger, this time lasting for the entirety of next season.
Antony’s performances have given the club a strong chance at securing Champions League football next year, with the club wanting to keep him for that run.
Currently Betis are covering 84% of his salary and bonuses whilst United top up the rest, with Antony’s full wage reported at around £200,000 per week .
As such, this has been a significant hurdle to finding suitors which will match his current wage, leading to his load deal with Betis.
In response to this, his Betis teammate Isco joked: “We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year.”
With his contract in place at Old Trafford until 2027, another year long-loan could help Antony find his feet even further for a sale in summer 2026, giving Betis more time to generate the funds for a permanent move.
