Manchester United and Newcastle United are still locked into the race for Benjamin Sesko as both clubs are looking for a new striker.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a reliable goalscorer at Old Trafford after two seasons with Rasmus Hojlund as the first-choice striker, failing to provide consistency in front of goal.

As for Newcastle, The Magpies are lining up a new striker as star man Alexander Isak wants to leave the club this summer, with Liverpool pushing to add him to their ranks alongside fellow new forward, Hugo Ekitike.

As such, both clubs are fighting to sign the Slovenia international, with news from his home country claiming that he’s decided to go with Newcastle.

Now, speaking to Sky Sports Germany, RB Leipzig boss Marcel Schafer commented: “We won’t go into detail on that, but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it’s obvious what has happened.”

It’s clear that Sesko’s future is looking more and more likely to lie away from the Bundesliga club, with the 22-year-old even being left out of today’s fixture as Atalanta beat Leipzig 2-1.

Both Manchester United and Newcastle United have pitched their project to the talented striker, with Sesko reportedly set to make a decision on his future in the coming days.

It’s understood that both of the Premier League sides are waiting for the green light from Sesko of him choosing them before submitting a formal bid to Leipzig.

As such, it’s expected that Benjamin Sesko will be at Old Trafford next season, it just remains to be seen if it’s as part of Ruben Amorim’s side, or against them.
