Manchester United are closing in on a move for Benjamin Sesko as the Slovenia international is set to make an imminent transfer from RB Leipzig.

United are looking to Sesko as an upgrade from current first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund, having battled against Newcastle United for the star striker.

Both clubs pitched their projects to Sesko and tabled major offers of around £75 million for the striker in their bid to bring the 22-year-old to the Premier League.

However, with Sesko agreeing personal terms with The Red Devils, Newcastle have backed away from the deal.

As such, it’s left the door open for United to enter into easier discussions with Leipzig about a transfer for the talented striker, without risk of a bidding war playing out.

The Magpies had already fielded a bid for Sesko on Tuesday 5th August, valuing at £71.6 million plus £2.2 million in bonuses for a total of £73.8 million, which was accepted by Leipzig.

In response, The Red Devils matched the bid, with negotiations starting between the Old Trafford side and Leipzig.

Now, David Ornstein has provided a major update in the race, explaining that an agreement in principle is in place between the two clubs.

The deal between United and Leipzig still stands at a total of £73.8 million overall, comprised of a £66.4 million transfer fee with £7.4 million in add-ons.

Permission has now been given to Sesko to travel to Manchester to complete his medical assessment as well for the deal to be completed.

Now, Sesko is set to become Ruben Amorim’s third major summer signing, completing the transformation of The Red Devil’s attack before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign gets underway.
