Manchester United’s attacking overhaul under Ruben Amorim has entered a decisive phase, with the manager and recruitment team finally zoning in on their long-term number nine.

Following a summer of scouting and negotiations, United are on the verge of landing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth upwards of €80million.

It’s a move that signals clear intent — and one that is set to trigger major consequences elsewhere in the squad.

United have been testing the waters for alternatives throughout the window, previously exploring a move for Ollie Watkins, before setting their sights fully on Sesko.

But with the financial pressures of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) looming large, it’s clear that the club will need to sell before the deadline.

And the player in the firing line appears to be none other than Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish striker have admitted that he’s well aware of the situation developing behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Hojlund is resigned to being forced out by Manchester United if Benjamin Sesko completes a move to Old Trafford.

This comes after just two years since Hojlund signed for a staggering £72million from Atalanta.

Højlund is said to be open to fighting for his place, stating last week in Chicago: “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.”

However, Amorim was notably tight-lipped when asked if the Dane was in his plans moving forward.

United are prepared to offload Hojlund at a loss if necessary to stay within PSR limits.

He joined on a £64m up-front fee and still has one year left on his initial three-year deal, meaning his current PSR book value stands at around £38.4m.

After a return of just 10 goals last season — with only four in the Premier League — United are beginning to question whether their investment in Hojlund was worth it.
