In recent weeks, several former Manchester United players have been on the move, each embarking on new chapters in their careers.

Martin Dubravka, who spent a brief loan spell at Old Trafford, recently joined Burnley, while ex-United goalkeeper Jacob Carney signed for Northern Irish side Glenavon.

Elsewhere, Serbian stopper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic completed a high-profile switch to Napoli, and veteran full-back Ashley Young joined Championship side Ipswich Town.

Now, another familiar face has made a fresh start – this time back in his native Argentina land.

Former United defender Marcos Rojo has signed for Racing Club after his contract with Boca Juniors was mutually terminated back in June.

Racing Club took to X, posting a picture of Rojo holding up their shirt, after the defender signed a one year deal.

Rojo, who joined United from Sporting CP for €20 million in 2014, made 122 appearances for the club and was valued for his versatility and aggressive defending before injuries disrupted his progress.

Following four seasons at Boca, his time there ended amid tensions with head coach Miguel Angel Russo, leaving him frozen out of first-team training after a poor run of form and results.

Racing’s announcement of the signing came with a twist – his shirt will read ‘Marcos R.’ instead of ‘Rojo’.

This unusual change is down to head coach Gustavo Costas’ deep-rooted dislike of the colour red, which is linked to Racing’s fierce rivals Independiente.

Costas is said to avoid anything red in his personal life, from clothing to certain foods like tomatoes and red peppers, and refused to have the word ‘rojo’ appear on the shirt.

So while the era of ‘Rojo’ is over in name, the 35-year-old’s new chapter as ‘Marcos’ at Racing Club has just begun.
