Manchester United’s summer window has shown early signs of promise but is still a long way from being complete.

The signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have injected excitement into the fanbase, offering fresh energy and directness in attack.

But despite that progress, there’s a clear acceptance within the club that several key areas still need attention before the window shuts.

United’s squad depth remains thin, while certain starting positions continue to be flagged internally as not good enough for a top-four push.

One of those areas is in goal, where Andre Onana’s struggles last season and his current hamstring injury have forced the club to revisit their goalkeeper plans.

As stated earlier today, Gianluigi Donnarumma has been a recurring name in United’s shortlist throughout the summer – now posing as a frontrunner.

Now, The Telegraph report that PSG are braced for a fresh approach from United once their deal for Lille’s Lucas Chevalier is finalised.

United had already made an enquiry for Donnarumma earlier in the window, with the 26-year-old’s future in Paris looking increasingly uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract.

PSG are open to letting him go for the right price, despite being happy to keep him on paper – and know United’s interest could soon become concrete.

The Red Devils have also tried to loan Emi Martinez from Aston Villa in recent weeks, but were quickly rebuffed by Unai Emery’s side.

Donnarumma remains the top target for United, especially with Senne Lammens only considered an option if Altay Bayindir departs.

Financial restrictions and the need for outgoings still complicate the situation.

However, United’s goalkeeping search is very much alive – and Donnarumma now looks firmly in their sights.

The main obstacle in the way of signing Donnarumma? Chelsea’s known interest.

Competition for a signing that can’t get much tougher when Chelsea are known to be lingering.
