Manchester United’s summer transfer window has drawn plenty of attention, with the club adding five new signings to Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
Matheus Cunha arrived in June and Bryan Mbeumo followed in July, strengthening United’s attacking options and giving Amorim more variety upfront.
The Red Devils also hijacked Newcastle’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, adding a fresh striking option to bolster the squad.
Long-term investments were made as well, with Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon and prospect Senne Lammens arriving to secure the future between the posts.
Fans have been keeping a close eye on United’s goalkeeping situation, particularly after links to Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma circulated throughout the summer.
That goalkeeping saga brings us to an intriguing revelation: former Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel told Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher that he did everything in his power to try and convince Gianluigi Donnarumma to sign for the Red Devils.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, and revealed by TikTok, on Wednesday evening, Carragher revealed: “You seem a little bit ‘offended’ by the fact that PSG have let Donnarumma go.

“Are you sure you shouldn’t be offended with what you’ve done yourself in the last 12 months? You’ve basically tried to get him to Manchester United.
“You’ve been talking to him at every opportunity and you failed.”
Reacting to Carragher, Schmeichel explained his efforts and what Gianluigi Donnarumma told him: “And that’s why I’m not an agent.
“I have been talking to him for, yeah, actually more than a year and I pulled him and I said, ‘I asked you to come to Man United.
“You’re in the wrong club here.’ And all he said was, ‘I am happy.’”
Donnarumma ultimately left PSG in the summer and completed a sensational move to Manchester City on deadline day for around £30m, arriving in the same window as Ederson’s transfer to Fenerbahce.
Carragher couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Schmeichel over his past, saying: “But it is one of your former clubs, Peter.”
Schmeichel responded with characteristic honesty: “Yeah, it is, but still, it’s not in there [pointing at his heart].”
The exchange sparked laughter, with Carragher joking: “City fans are coming” for the 61-year-old Dane, highlighting the irony of Schmeichel’s allegiance to United while Donnarumma ended up at their bitter rivals.
United fans are left to imagine what could have been had Schmeichel’s persuasion worked, but the former goalkeeper’s honesty and passion for the club remain undiminished.
