Manchester United’s summer rebuild continues to take shape under Ruben Amorim, with the focus now turning to the goalkeeping department.

Andre Onana’s first season at Old Trafford was riddled with inconsistency, and questions persist over whether he will remain the club’s long-term number one.

While Onana has not been informed that he’s surplus to requirements, there is growing speculation that United could bring in a new keeper before the 2024/25 campaign begins.

INEOS are believed to be pushing for upgrades across the pitch, and the goalkeeping position has become an area of scrutiny after another trophyless season.

Now, Manchester United have been linked with a move for OGC Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka — but a significant obstacle has emerged.

According to Sports Zone on X, the Poland international has asked to leave Nice this summer, with United monitoring his situation closely.

Ben Jacobs confirmed the news stating, “Nice’s Marcin Bułka is one name on Manchester United’s list of potential goalkeepers.”

Marcin Bulka, 25, joined Nice on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 before making the move permanent in 2022, and he has just over a year left on his current deal.

His impressive form in Ligue 1 has not gone unnoticed, but a transfer to Old Trafford will not be possible — at least not this summer.

Both Manchester United and Nice are under the ownership of INEOS, and UEFA regulations have intervened due to the multi-club model rules.

Last summer, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) launched proceedings into the ownership situation, and a ruling followed that now directly impacts United’s business.

According to UEFA, neither club is permitted to transfer players between one another — whether permanently or on loan — until September 2025, unless a deal was already in place prior to the investigation.

This ruling effectively blocks United from signing Bulka in the current transfer window, despite their reported interest and the player’s willingness to move.

It’s a frustrating twist for Amorim and INEOS, as they explore cost-effective recruitment options amid Financial Fair Play restrictions.

However, Bulka is not the only name being monitored, with World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez also under consideration.

The Aston Villa keeper, who is also attracting attention from Atletico Madrid, would be a more experienced and high-profile option, but potentially costlier both in terms of transfer fee and wages.

United may still monitor Bulka’s future, but any move would have to wait until at least next year — unless UEFA revises its stance.
