Newcastle United are desperately searching for a new striker as the future of Alexander Isak looks likely to lie away from St James Park.
The Sweden international has expressed his desire to explore a move away from Newcastle this summer, and has even gone to extreme lengths to ensure this is taken seriously.
Newcastle’s star striker is currently training away from the Magpies, using the facilities of his former club Real Sociedad, in a bid to force a move away, most likely to Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s side have already launched a £110 million bid for Isak, after having already signed Newcastle’s Plan B Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, the initial bid was rejected, falling short of the club’s £150 million valuation for their star.
With Liverpool showing they’re determined to make waves this summer, having already signed Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong this summer alongside Ekitike, Newcastle are bracing themselves for another bid from the Anfield outfit.
As such, Eddie Howe is in need of a replacement for Isak, turning to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, entering a race for the 22-year-old with Manchester United.
However, The Daily Mail has now reported that The Magpies are taking a back seat as Sesko has suggested his preference to join The Red Devils, and are now looking to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins instead.
Watkins was also a firm favourite on United’s shortlist, however The Red Devils are now focused on Benjamin Sesko, with a formal bid set to be submitted once Sesko agrees personal terms with the club.
As such, Newcastle appear to have given Ruben Amorim’s side a clear run at Sesko, only helping the Red Devils in transfer negotiations, seemingly ending the risk of a bidding war between the two Premier League sides this summer.
