Manchester United’s striker search this summer has been littered with frustration and failed pursuits.
From early moves for Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres to later interest in Hugo Ekitike, the club have struggled to land a polished striker to replace Rasmus Hojlund.
Victor Osimhen was seen internally as the dream centre-forward for United’s system.
However, his wage demands, reportedly well over £300,000-a-week, were considered excessive by the club.
That decision looked justified when Osimhen completed a surprise permanent move to Galatasaray earlier this month, leaving United’s top-bracket options limited.
Another ‘dream’ name on the wishlist was Alexander Isak, whose combination of pace, intelligence and finishing had previously made him a standout target.
But the lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford – and the contrast in trajectory between United and Newcastle – made a deal extremely unlikely.
Now, according to Florian Plettenberg on X, United did recently make a formal enquiry to Newcastle United about signing Isak.
However, the Swede immediately turned down the approach.
He has made it clear once again that Liverpool are the only club he wants to join.
Plettenberg adds that Isak has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool on a deal until 2031.
As well as the fact that his camp remain optimistic about the move despite Newcastle rejecting a £120 million offer.
United’s interest, while genuine, appears to have come far too late – with the striker fully focused on a move to Anfield instead.
The Red Devils remain focused on landing Benjamin Sesko for now, with a formal bid ready should Sesko give the ‘green light’ to Old Trafford move.

Even Manchester United made an enquiry in recent days, but Isak turned it down. He only wants #LFC.
