Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has been thrown into fresh uncertainty just days before the start of their pre-season schedule.

Andre Onana has picked up an untimely injury, potentially ruling him out of the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign and forcing United into a rethink.

Altay Bayindir had been widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer in search of regular minutes, but the Turkish international may now be required to stay and deputise.

United have already explored the market for goalkeeping reinforcements, with their interest driven partly by Bayindir’s expected exit.

And now further emphasised by Onana’s fitness setback.

One name seriously considered was Vanja Milinkovic-Savic – linked with a return to United.

However, he is now poised to complete a move elsewhere.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Napoli are now “close” to sealing the signing of Milinkovic-Savic from Torino.

Romano states that Torino have reached a verbal agreement to sign Cyril Ngonge from Napoli, with that deal acting as a trigger for Milinkovic-Savic’s switch to Naples.

A personal agreement had already been reached between Milinkovic-Savic and Napoli earlier this summer, and with the Ngonge deal in place, full completion is now “imminent”.

United had been linked with a return for the Serbian, who they originally signed from Vojvodina in 2014.

Unable to secure a work permit, Milinkovic-Savic never made a senior appearance and was sold after a series of loans.

Now 28, he’s become a star at Torino and one of Serie A’s most consistent stoppers – form that attracted United’s attention before they were beaten to the punch.

The Red Devils remain interested in  Botafogo’s John Victor, as they consider next steps in response to Onana’s injury.

While talks regarding a move for Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa have slowed down, however.
