AS Monaco now find themselves at the heart of United’s transfer shortlist, with two players peaking the Red Devils’ interest.
United are now turning their attention to their midfield following the singing of striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro.
With players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen looking likely to depart this summer, United are in need of strengthening their midfield to be competitive this coming season.
United have recently agreed terms with PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, however the two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the Uruguayan star.
Monaco could hold United’s key to strengthening midfield
With negotiations taking place between United and PSG around Ugarte, the Premier League club are still keen to look at alternatives. This proactive need to boost their squad has led the Red Devils to Monaco, with midfielder Youssouf Fofana at the heart of United’s interest.
United declared their interest in the star earlier last month, with Fofana announcing he wanted to leave Monaco for a move to the Premier League.
The French international has been vital for Monaco since he moved from Strasbourg for €15 million in 2020 after winning the French League Cup. Now after 175 appearances over four years at the club, Fofana is ready to part ways with Monaco, feeling he wants to take a step forward in his career.
Another Monaco star peaking United’s interest
Alongside Fofana, Untied are also looking at one of Monaco’s right-backs as a potential replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan Bissaka is starting to gather interest from a number of European clubs, with AC Milan, Inter and West Ham United all announcing their intent to sign the defender. Whilst United are not actively looking to sell the 26-year-old, they are open to listen to offers that come in.
The Red Devils are now drawing up potential replacements for the right-back in case a suitable offer comes in for the star. Now, the Monaco star appears to be the first name on the list as an alternative.
Sky Sports have reported that Brazilian right-back Vanderson is the second Monaco man who United are interested in. The 23-year-old has become a vital member of the French side since joining from Gremio in 2022 for €11 million. With 84 appearances for the League 1 club, Vanderson’s versatility has shone through, playing both on right-midfield and right-back.
The only concern for United may be with discipline, with Vanderson having received three suspensions across two years for Monaco. The defender has been wracking up yellow cards, getting 14 in two years. This has led to one Yellow Card Suspension and two Indirect Card Suspensions from two yellows in the same game, converting to red.
