Manchester United’s signing of Matheus Cunha is getting closer and closer as an agreement has been made between United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United have already agreed terms with Cunha to move to Old Trafford on a five year deal which will see him don the number 10 shirt.
The striker is also set to receive a considerable wage increase, going from his £120,000 per week with Wolves to £200,000 per week at Old Trafford.
However, the final stages to getting the deal across the line come with an agreement to pay the £62.5 million release clause.
It’s understood that United are looking to pay the release clause in three instalments of £20.85 million over a two year period, helping to lessen an immediate financial impact of the deal.
United’s initial request was for a payment plan over five years which was rejected, with the two sides agreeing on the two year plan.
Now that a deal appears to be in place for the paying of the release clause, Wolves have approved the next step of Cunha’s imminent move.
Charlotte Duncker of the Times has reported that Wolves have given the green light for United to schedule a medical for the Brazil international.
Whilst it was expected for the medical to take place this week, the formal agreement for it to be set is a major step in the transfer taking place in the coming days.
This has been backed up by The Athletic’s David Ornstein who has confirmed that Wolves have given United permission to complete the deal for Cunha by carrying out his medical assessment and arranging for him to sign his new contract.
Excitingly this means that United fans will get to see everything conclude ready for Matheus Cunha to become a Red Devil when the transfer window opens on 1st June 2025.
