Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is on the verge of joining Barcelona on a season-long loan, however, he’s not set for the role he would have hoped for.

Rashford’s United career seemingly ended last winter when the 27-year-old was dropped from Ruben Amorim’s squad, with the England international responding that he’s ready for a new challenge.

As such, The Red Devils worked to offload their want-away; however, his £325,000 per week wages proved too much for any permanent transfer, seeing Aston Villa take Rashford on loan.

The Villains did have a £40 million option to buy clause too, however chose against triggering it due to missing out on Champions League football and therefore the much-needed extra funds to make Rashford’s permanent move financially viable.

However, this did leave the door open for Barcelona who are now taking the England international on a loan deal with the option to buy for between £26 million and £30 million at the end of the season with conflicting reports about the total fee.

Now, Rashford has flown out to Spain, has completed his medical and contract signing, set to be announced tomorrow to his new fans.

However, as he prepares for life at Camp Nou, his role at the club has been revealed.

Carrusel Deportivo has reported that Rashford is set to be a back-up to Raphinha, coming into the fray to allow him to rest and cover his spot in the starting line-up when needed.

The reported comments: “Rashford’s role at Barça: to give Raphinha rest and contribute quality minutes”.

As such, Marcus Rashford isn’t set for the staring role he’s had at Old Trafford or that he earned at Aston Villa, instead set for time on the bench waiting on Hansi Flick to call him up when needed.
