Marcus Rashford has now officially been unveiled as a Barcelona player following the completion of his medical assessments and contract signing to move to the LaLiga champions.
Whilst Rashford is initially only on a season-long loan with the Spanish giants, an option to buy has been built in, with a minor penalty fee set for not taking the attacker permanently at the end of the season.
Currently there are conflicting reports about the fee Barca will need to pay to retain Rashford at the end of the season, however personal terms at that point shouldn’t be an issue with Rashford already taking a 15% wage cut with Barca covering his entire salary for the year.
As such, it seems that the England international’s future with Barca comes down to his performances and attitude to if Hansi Flick thinks he’s worth while keeping around next summer.
Now, the 27-year-old has spoken out for the first time since his return from Aston Villa on loan and subsequent move to Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano has reported the attacker as saying: “Barcelona is a club where people’s dreams come true”.
He continues: “What the club stands for means a lot to me as well and it feels like I’m at home, and this is a big factor in my choice. I feel I’m joining a family”.
It’s understood that Marcus Rashford is being handed the number 14 shirt, following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry.
Rashford is expected to be playing a back up role, covering for Raphinha to avoid the Brazilian attack being a victim of match fatigue.
Now the 27-year-old can look to the opportunity ahead, leaving Manchester United behind, at least for a year, as The Red Devils find their feet again under Ruben Amorim.
Speaking about his former club, Rashford commented: “I don’t have anything bad to say about Manchester United”.
He continued: “I think it’s been an important part of my life, I’m grateful… I just wish them all the best and I hope they are successful in the future”.
