The road for Manchester United to sign top transfer target Manuel Ugarte has been a long one, with significant delays around a transfer fee.

The pursuit of Ugarte was anticipated to be a long one, with the difference in United and PSG’s valuation of the Uruguayan midfielder needing much negotiation. That said, Dan Ashworth remained hopeful that with Ugarte’s role in the squad being more of a back up since PSG signed Joao Neves, that the midfielder’s price tag may drop closer to deadline day.

For a while it looked as though Jadon Sancho could be used to sweeten the deal, with the French champions extremely interested in the winger. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, this hasn’t materialised despite the clubs holding meetings to discuss both men.

United have already agreed personal terms with Ugarte over a month ago, with the final steps being to agree the transfer fee between clubs.

However, now reports from France claim the deal is nearly across the line.

United set to sign Ugarte in the coming hours

French publication L’equipe have reported that United and Paris Saint-German have finally come to an agreement.

It’s understood that a loan deal with an obligation to buy has been agreed with an end value of £51 million (€60 million). We’re now expected to see the deal finalised in the next few hours after massive progress was made last night.

United are keen to get this deal across the line as soon as possible for the midfielder to start building a partnership with Kobbie Mainoo, hoping their differing skill sets will be able to complement each other on the pitch.

This is a developing story, more details will follow soon…
