Though the role of Manuel Ugarte in this United side has been questioned with Kobbie Mainoo on the fringes of the squad, Ugarte has had minutes in every single Premier League match this season bar Burnley and started the Manchester derby.
Though the transfer window is now shut, it doesn’t mean the activity stops with United likely earmarking players to sign in future for the next transfer window and possible exits.
There have been many incoming and outgoings this past summer with the Amorim era in full flow. As such, it’s clear with the exits of Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, the former Sporting CP manager wanted to usher in his era with the players of his choosing.
Though Ugarte was not an Amorim signing, he did work with the manager before at Sporting.
According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest Youtube video, Ugarte was subject to interest from Italian clubs but United were not interested in a loan move for the player.
Romano mentioned that if a club arrived with a permanent offer for the Uruguayan, the situation could change.
United are sure to move for a central midfielder at some point over the next two transfer windows, with their interest for Carlos Baleba clear in the summer.
Additionally, the ages of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes need to be taken into consideration and the fact that both players have had solid interest from Saudi Arabia and in Casemiro’s case, Brazil.
With the Brazilian entering the final year of his contract on hefty wages, United have to start thinking about succession planning for the former Real Madrid midfielder and whether Ugarte plays a role in United’s future team.
Either way, the fact that Ugarte had suitors from Serie A is a positive as it means that if United do intend to offload the player, there are already clubs interested.
For now, Ugarte is a United player, but a move in 2026 could be revisited.
