At the moment, Manchester United have three primary goalkeepers.
The first of these, Andre Onana, was arguably United’s starting ‘keeper for the majority of last campaign making 34 appearances and keeping nine clean sheets.
However, in the new season, Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has been preferred between the sticks with him featuring in each of United’s three Premier League games thus far.
Finally, Tom Heaton completes the Red Devils’ goalkeeper line-up.
But, in recent days and weeks, there has been debate about who should start in between the sticks for Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Some have said Bayindir, some have said Onana and the first team players have even expressed their opinion with some players choosing Heaton.
But, with the window closing imminently, there is arguably pressure on Amorim to sign a ‘keeper, something not achieved so far.
The Red Devils have been linked with Emiliano Martinez and Senne Lammens from Aston Villa and Royal Antwerp respectively.
However, with the transfer window nearing its closure, it remains unclear if United will sign either goalkeeper.
Now, it appears that the Old Trafford outfit are closing in on the signing of a new name.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are expected to sign goalkeeper Abdulla Al-Hammadi on a free transfer.
With this a free transfer, it would not have to be done by tomorrow’s deadline.
Earlier this month, it was understood that the goalkeeper was undergoing a trial with the club with United expected to sign the 20-year-old.
Al-Hammadi has previously played for United Arab Emirates Pro League side Al Wasl.
Furthermore, the young goalkeeper has captained the UAE Under-18s side.
Manchester Evening News have also revealed that the signing of Abdulla Al-Hammadi would be an academy signing and his arrival would not impact plans to sign a first-team goalkeeper.
