Manchester United’s youth revolution under INEOS continues to gather momentum ahead of a crucial summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim has embraced the club’s new long-term philosophy by regularly handing chances to youngsters in the senior setup.

Against Brentford, the Portuguese manager named the club’s youngest-ever Premier League starting XI, highlighting a fresh era at Old Trafford.

This strategic shift is mirrored off the pitch, with United now aggressively targeting elite youth talent from across the world.

Recent signings like Chido Obi and Sekou Kone demonstrate the kind of high-upside prospects INEOS want in the squad’s next phase.

According to reports, United’s latest target is Sunderland’s rising midfield sensation Chris Rigg, widely regarded as one of the Championship’s top young players.

The 16-year-old has been a standout figure in Sunderland’s promotion push this season, helping the Black Cats finish fourth and secure a place in the Championship play-offs.

Chris Rigg has impressed scouts throughout the campaign with his composure, versatility and leadership beyond his years, earning comparisons to elite-level midfielders despite his age.

United are not alone in their interest, but they are considered front-runners due to their revamped recruitment model and growing reputation for nurturing youth.

Despite the mounting interest, Rigg remains laser-focused on helping Sunderland secure a Premier League return.

“I’ve not achieved anything yet,” he told The Telegraph.

“I don’t listen to any of the speculation,” Rigg said.

“I’ve got far more important things to worry about, like trying to get Sunderland promoted. That’s my dream.”

“I’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of me, especially if I’m going to get where I want to be. I want to get to the very top.

“I want to play for my country, I want to win things.

“I want to play in the Premier League for Sunderland, that has always been the dream.”

United’s admiration for the teenager hasn’t gone unnoticed, and insiders believe a deal could be struck—especially if Sunderland fail to secure promotion.

Rigg is valued at around £25 million, a figure United are willing to meet, particularly if they also push ahead with interest in Jobe Bellingham.

A double raid on Sunderland is being considered by INEOS as part of their summer revamp, with both Rigg and Bellingham fitting the profile of young, technically gifted midfielders.

If Sunderland fall short in the play-offs, United are expected to accelerate talks and close in swiftly.

With Christian Eriksen set to leave, the Red Devils are eager to finalise midfield reinforcements early—and Rigg is now firmly on their radar.
