Now the European Championships are over, the transfer market is heating up with United now completing their first signing in the form of Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

The Netherlands international has officially put pen to paper and become a Red Devil with more details about his contract emerging.

The 23-year-old has signed a five year contract which will see him at Old Trafford until 2029, earning him a total of just under £3 million per year working out at £56,000 per week.

For the first time speaking as a United player, Zirkzee commented that: “having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United,”

He continued by saying: “I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.”

Jeremie Frimpong comments on Joshua Zirkzee  social media

The striker’s excitement couldn’t be contained with the Dutchman turning to Instagram posting a picture of himself in the United dressing room, captioned: “An honor. Happy and proud to be part of this club. Can’t wait to get started!” followed with a heart and a smiley face emoji.

Interestingly, another United target and fellow Netherlands teammate Jeremie Frimpong commented on Zirkzee’s post by saying: “Joshyyyyyy,” with two love heart emojis, showing his support of Zirkzee’s Manchester move.

The right-midfielder has had an amazing season as part of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, grabbing 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

His contributions have been vital, securing a number of victories including; a goal and assist in both the 3-2 win over RedBull Leipzig and the 2-1 win over Wolfsburg, both in the Bundesliga, and a goal in the Europa League Quarter-Final 1-1 draw to West Ham United sending Leverkusen through to the Semi’s on aggregate.

Previous reports suggested that Frimpong was on United’s radar for this summer after the successful season, so with a seemingly favourable opinion of a move towards Manchester United hinted at with his comments to Zirkzee, we could potentially see a renewed interest in the 23-year-old midfielder.
