Manchester United have not had the best of luck with injuries this season.
Not only are they missing several stars with long term injuries such as Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, but they’re seemingly picking up new injuries on a weekly basis.
Just as it seems that it’s one step forward, it’s a case of one step back.
And now Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that his side could be set to miss a major player ahead of their FA Cup clash against Fulham.
United, who are the current FA Cup holders after defeating arch rivals Manchester City 2-1 in last year’s final, will be hoping to repeat the trick this time around also.
Having barely claimed victory against Ipswich Town in their midweek English Premier League tie, a home tie against Fulham is a favourable draw that The Red Devils will be hoping to get through.
But they’ll have to do it without one of their main players.
That’s because Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho picked up a knock against Ipswich and could be struggling to make the squad for the Fulham game.
Garnacho, who made headlines for going straight down the tunnel after being substituted in a tactical change after Patrick Dorgu got sent off, would have been hoping to make amends in this game.
That resulted in wide speculation that the young attacker was upset and had stormed down the tunnel.
Ruben Amorim confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho is set to buy dinner for the squad as punishment for that and it seems that everything is good and behind the pair.
Fans were expecting to see Garnacho back in the lineup for the FA Cup game, but it seems that may not be happening.
Speaking to the media, Amorim confirmed the state of play with the young attacker.
“Yes, he [Garnacho] has a knock, when he went to shoot was blocked inside the box,” the Portuguese head coach confirmed.
“I expect for him to be ready but we will see.”
So it seems that there is some hope that Alejandro Garnacho could be back in contention based on Ruben Amorim’s words, but MUFC fans will be worried that the knock could rule the young Argentina star out.
Despite United having played extremely poorly in recent weeks, Garnacho has been somewhat of a shining light – albeit without the numbers to back that up.
His introduction at half-time against Everton helped the team turn a 2-0 deficit into a 2-2 draw and he’s equally impressed in other games too.
Fulham would be incredibly pleased if a player like Alejandro Garnacho didn’t make it to the starting lineup at Old Trafford on Sunday.
But if he does recover from his knock, then Garnacho will surely want to show the world what he’s made of and answer any critics after his substitution against Ipswich.
