Ruben Amorim’s summer transfer plans are starting to take shape as Manchester United prepare for a crucial window under new leadership.

United are expected to finalise a number of outgoings in the coming weeks.

The club remains cautious with its goalkeeping strategy, opting not to pursue a high-cost replacement for under-pressure Andre Onana, whose inconsistent debut season has drawn mixed reviews.

Financial Fair Play remains a factor in shaping United’s summer strategy, with internal sources admitting that splashing out on a new number one would heavily restrict other squad improvements.

Amid all this, Manchester United are moving quietly but efficiently behind the scenes to secure a low-key but significant addition.

According to Football Insider, the club are working on a deal to sign Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old, whose contract expires in June, has emerged as a surprise target for United to fill the role of third-choice keeper next season.

Freddie Woodman, a former England U21 international, will likely replace veteran Tom Heaton and provide a boost to the club’s homegrown player quota – an important consideration given UEFA and Premier League regulations.

Originally a product of the Newcastle United academy, Woodman joined Preston in 2022 and has quietly built a strong reputation at Championship level.

This season alone, he has made 44 appearances across all competitions, keeping 17 clean sheets and conceding 48 goals – solid numbers that haven’t gone unnoticed by scouts.

While he never truly broke through at Newcastle, making just nine first-team appearances and enduring multiple loan spells, his consistency at Preston and Swansea has made him a respected figure in the second tier.

Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton is expected to depart this summer, leaving the door open for Woodman to step into the squad.

Though not a headline-grabbing signing, the move fits United’s current recruitment strategy – practical, budget-aware, and aligned with squad needs.

All eyes will now be on whether Woodman agrees terms and finalises the switch, with United aiming to wrap up the deal swiftly ahead of pre-season preparations.
